Fire Pit Art Sea Creatures 36" Steel Fire Pit
Description
Starfish, seahorses and sea turtles are cut around the bowl, and they seem to move in the firelight.
Each piece is made to order by craftsmen in Lebanon, Tennessee, from heavy 1/4" mild carbon steel. The inner bowl has a high-temperature coating and a 1½" rain drain. The outside is left to form a natural iron-oxide patina. It needs no maintenance and can stay outdoors in any weather. With use, the patina darkens a few shades and then settles for good. Every fire pit is numbered by the artist on a brass plaque.
Choose how it burns
- Wood burning. The fire pit as designed, for a real wood fire.
- Match lit, natural gas or propane. Adds a HPC stainless Penta 24" 200K BTU burner with a flex line, valve, burner plate and lava rock. You light it with a match or lighter. HPC gives the burner a lifetime warranty.
- Electronic ignition, natural gas or propane. The same gas kit with Fire by Design's AWEIS all-weather electronic ignition (24-volt transformer, fire module and heat shield). It lights at the push of a button, senses the flame and is windproof. It needs a standard outdoor power outlet nearby.
Natural gas and propane versions are built differently, so order the one that matches your supply. Have gas models connected by a licensed gas fitter.

Caring for the patina
Do not cover the fire pit with a tarp. A tarp traps moisture, stops the patina from forming evenly and can stain the steel. While the steel matures, keep wet leaves off it, and let each fire help the finish along.
Delivery
Each piece is made to order in Tennessee and shipped by freight directly from Fire Pit Art. Delivery is free to the contiguous United States. Allow 3–5 weeks.
Care & maintenance
Let the patina form
Carbon-steel pieces arrive with a fresh iron-oxide finish that darkens over the first weeks outdoors, then settles. Do not cover it with a tarp: a tarp traps moisture, stops the patina forming evenly and can stain the steel. Keep wet leaves off it while it matures.
Everyday
Nothing to oil, paint or seal. Let the fire pit cool completely, then clear the ash. The bowl has a rain drain, so it can stay outside all year. Stainless steel pieces just need a wipe down.
Gas models
Have a licensed gas fitter connect the burner and check it each season. Turn the gas off at the valve when you are done. Never burn wood on a gas burner.
Where to put it
Use it outdoors only, on a non-combustible surface, with clear space around it and nothing overhead. Follow your local fire rules.

Wood, natural gas or propane
Choose how it burns
The same hand-cut steel in every version. What changes is how you light it and what comes in the crate.
Wood burning
The fire pit as the artist designed it, for a real crackling wood fire.
- No gas line or installer needed
- Bring your own seasoned firewood
Match lit gas
A stainless gas burner under lava rock. Open the valve and light it with a long match or lighter.
- HPC stainless Penta 24", 200K BTU
- Valve, flex line, burner plate and lava rock included
Electronic ignition
The same gas kit with Fire by Design's AWEIS ignition. Push a button and it lights; a flame sensor shuts the gas if the flame goes out.
- All-weather, wind-proof ignition
- Needs an outdoor power outlet nearby
Natural gas and propane burners are built differently — order the one your home is plumbed for, and have a licensed gas fitter connect it.
Made by Fire Pit Art
Functional steel sculpture, made in Tennessee
Fire Pit Art is the workshop of artist Rick Wittrig in Lebanon, Tennessee. Every piece is cut, welded and finished to order in heavy American steel — nothing sits in a warehouse. When yours is finished, the artist numbers it on a brass plaque and it ships straight from the workshop to you.
Living finish
It is meant to change colour
The outside is bare carbon steel that forms a protective iron-oxide patina. No paint to chip, nothing to oil or seal.
- Delivery day
Grey steel
It arrives with the fresh grey of new steel and a high-heat coated bowl.
- First few weeks outdoors
Warm rust
Rain and dew turn it a warm orange-brown. Keep wet leaves off and don't cover it with a tarp.
- With use
Settled patina
Each fire darkens it a few shades, then it settles for good. Nothing to paint, oil or seal.

Questions people ask before they buy
We are an authorised Fire Pit Art dealer. These answers come from the maker and from us — we deliver these pieces and stand behind them.
Who makes these fire pits?
Fire Pit Art, a family workshop in Lebanon, Tennessee, founded by artist Rick Wittrig. Every piece is cut and welded to order and numbered by the artist. We are an authorised dealer, and your fire pit ships straight from their workshop.
Wood, natural gas or propane — which should I choose?
Most designs come in five versions. Wood burning is the fire pit as designed. Match lit adds a stainless steel HPC burner, valve, flex line and lava rock, and you light it by hand. Electronic ignition adds Fire by Design’s AWEIS system: it lights at the push of a button, senses the flame and needs an outdoor power outlet. Pick natural gas or propane to match your supply, because the burners are built differently.
Do gas models need installing?
Yes. Have a licensed gas fitter connect gas models to your natural gas line or propane supply. Wood-burning models need no connection. They arrive ready to use.
Will it rust?
Carbon-steel pieces are meant to. The outside forms a natural iron-oxide patina that protects the steel and needs no maintenance. It darkens a little with use, then settles for good. Don’t cover it with a tarp while it matures. The stainless steel designs (Bella Vita and Fire Surfer) do not patina.
How does delivery work?
Delivered free to residential addresses in the contiguous United States (the lower 48 and DC). We cannot ship Fire Pit Art pieces outside that area.
Every piece is made to order at the Fire Pit Art workshop in Lebanon, Tennessee, and shipped by freight direct to you. Allow 3–5 weeks from order to delivery. The carrier will call ahead to book a delivery slot. Please inspect the crate before you sign for it — transit damage must be noted on the delivery receipt.
What is the warranty, and who do I call?
Fire Pit Art gives a 10-year structural warranty on carbon-steel fire pits and 100 years on stainless steel. HPC gives the gas burners a lifetime warranty. The patina finish itself isn’t covered, because it is meant to change. Contact us, not the maker: as an authorised dealer we take it up with Fire Pit Art for you.
Can I use it on a wooden deck?
Only with a non-combustible pad or base underneath and clear space all around. Never use it under a roof or awning. Check your local fire rules, as some areas restrict open wood fires.
